An electronic cigarette is a device that’s battery operated providing consumers with an inhaled dose of nicotine through a vaporized solution. This is a new form of smoking that is different from your usual tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars or pipes). This vapor provides smokers with a flavor and similar sensation to what you would get after smoking a cigarette without actually dealing with the smoke of a cigarette.
Some E cigarettes are in a long, thin tube that looks somewhat like an actual cigarette. Another common design type of an e-cigarette is a ballpoint pen type design. E-cigarettes are similar to ballpoint pens in that they are reusable devices with replaceable parts available for purchase. E-cigarettes come in a variety of forms, but for the most part, each will have a mouthpiece, something to heat up, and a battery that’s rechargeable.
Consumers can purchase several nicotine devices separately and in several different flavors. They contain nicotine that’s dissolved into propylene glycol or glycerin. Currently the health effects of using an e-cigarette aren’t known and it could be several years before consumers know anything. The American Association of Public Health Physicians claimed that e-cigarettes are a thousand times less harmful to your health than smoking a regular cigarette. This is not surprising since e-cigarettes have only a few chemicals as opposed to the 19 carcinogens that are found in traditional cigarettes, and it’s been found that the chemicals in e-cigarettes are within safe levels.
According to Cancer Research UK, “For a smoker, the health hazards of continuing to smoke greatly outweigh any potential risks of using NRT.” As of now, e-cigarettes are not approved as a medical NRT item. They also haven’t done any thorough testing to get the approval.
With the possible relationship with the laws on tobacco and medical drug policies, the legislation for e-cigarettes is still pending in several countries.
