Having a pregnant teen daughter can really change your family dynamics, but panicking and getting upset won’t fix anything. It’s much better to be calm and talk things out, no matter how concerned you are over the situation. First, you need to know if your daughter is showing signs of pregnancy. Her menstrual period will generally be late, and she may feel tired and achy. She may also have nausea and vomiting, have strange food cravings, and be moody and/or depressed. It’s also possible that she’ll be gaining weight.
If you notice these things, it’s time to get a home pregnancy test. If it comes out positive, you should have a doctor confirm it. If the test comes out negative, be sure to see your doctor to find out what else may be causing your daughter’s health issues. Assuming that she is pregnant, she may be very scared and even angry. It’s also possible she’ll be excited, but she may not really understand how difficult it can be to take care of a baby. No matter how you really feel about the situation, it’s very important that you help your daughter take care of herself.
Talk to her, and make sure she understands the importance of taking proper care of her body during her pregnancy. In order to help her have the best chance at a healthy baby, it’s vital that you don’t ignore the signs of pregnancy. Be up front about your concerns and let her know that she can talk to you about her worries and fears. The more you’re able to communicate, the better off you and your daughter (and her baby) will be as she moves toward giving birth. By taking prenatal vitamins, eating right, and getting appropriate exercise, as well as caring for her emotional health, your daughter can get through her pregnancy and make the right decisions for her life and the life of her child.
